Montreal, March 6, 2018 — The Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec Region (PSAC-Quebec) wishes to respond to the article “Gilligan irrite l’UdeM” which appeared in La Presse this morning.

As we know all too well, the lead-up to an election is a time when goodies are handed out to win votes. According to an announcement in Quebec City, the Liberal government’s plan to reform the parental leave plan (QPIP) to give parents more flexibility seems promising.

Quebec, February 28, 2018 – At 6:30 this morning, members of the Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE), a component of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec Region (PSAC-Quebec), began distributing information leaflets at the entrance to the Valcartier military base. This action, which disrupted the arrival of federal employees at their place of work this morning, marks the second anniversary of the Phoenix pay system.

Montreal, February 28, 2018 – At 6 a.m. this morning, approximately one hundred members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec Region (PSAC-Quebec), began demonstrating in front of the federal building at 715, Peel Street in Montreal. Their action marks the second anniversary of the Phoenix pay system and is intended to denounce the pay problems the system has generated. The members’ action disrupted the arrival of federal employees at their workplace this morning.

The Supreme Court has just handed down a ruling eagerly awaited by the labour movement, reaffirming the employer’s duty to accommodate in CNESST v. Caron.

Canada’s highest court upheld the ruling by the Quebec Court of Appeal to the effect that the Charter, and specifically, the duty to accommodate, is in fact applicable to workers with an employment injury, and that recourse is available under the Act respecting industrial accidents and occupational diseases.

Matane, January 29, 2018 - The Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec region is inviting the media to a press briefing during it they will talk about the Phoenix pay system.

Problems caused by the rollout of Phoenix have been plaguing more than 150,000 federal public service employees since February 2016. In the region, as everywhere in Canada, members are affected by the fiasco of this pay system.
