The Phoenix system is creating serious financial worries for federal public service workers. The employer has promised to fix the pay problems by October, but in the meantime, many members are struggling to make ends meet. The Caisse Desjardins is offering PSAC members two low-cost options to keep their heads above water.
Two options for PSAC members in Quebec
Option 1: A line of credit up to $3,000 at prime + 3% (currently approximately 6%). And until December 31, 2017, only the monthly interest will be charged.
Option 2: A line of credit up to $5,000 deposited in a guaranteed savings account. Members will receive payments of $1,000 every two weeks, to a maximum of $5,000, at prime + 3% (currently approximately 6%). And until December 31, 2017, only the monthly interest will be charged.
Note: The Caisse des militaires offers the same service to National Defence personnel.
How does it work?
It’s easy. Just follow the steps below:
INTERNET
This is the quickest method.
1- Go to the Desjardins Website to open an account.
2- Answer questions 1 to 3.
3- For question 4, select “Member of a trade union.” *If you work for National Defence, select “military field” and you will be linked to the Caisse des militaires.
4- For question 5, enter “FTQ”. If you selected “military field” in the previous question, this question will not display.
5- The application will link you directly to the Caisse Desjardins des travailleuses et travailleurs unis. Click on this box. *Or to the Caisse des militaires if you selected “military personnel” in question 4.
6- The next step is important. In answer to the question “How do you want to finalize the opening your account?”, select “at a Desjardins Caisse” and prepare the requested documents. If you choose this option, you will not have to go to the Caisse. Someone will contact you within 24 hours.
8- Provide the requested information.
7- When asked the planned account usage, select “emergency purposes” and complete the procedure, agreeing to the terms.
