Lacolle: Customs and Immigration Union rallies for a fair contract

Montreal, March 22, 2018 – The Customs and Immigration Union (CIU) and the Public Service Alliance of Canada, Quebec Region (PSAC-Quebec) will hold a demonstration near the Lacolle border crossing on Friday, March 23 at 12 p.m.

During the rally, the unions will also hold a press conference regarding the ongoing bargaining process with the government toward a new collective agreement for members of the FB (Border Services) group.

The FB group is composed of more than 8,000 members who work for the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Their collective agreement expired in June 2014.

Among the unions’ demands, the major issues are:

  • Wage parity with other federal law enforcement agencies;

  • The possibility of retiring after 25 years of service without penalty;

  • Protection against the contracting out of work;

  • Preventing CBSA from using technology to cut positions and putting the safety of Canadians at risk;

  • Stronger provisions regarding discipline;

  • Stronger provisions regarding variable shift scheduling.
